Examples are the TELER project http://europa.eu.int/en/comm/eurostat/research/dosis/teler, the DATAMED project http://europe.eu.int/en/comm/eurostat/research/dosis/datamed In the ETK-NTTS2001 conference in Crete Hans Stol presented his paper: "SuperCollect: a system for data capture using Internet", June 2001 see also http://webfarm.jrc.cec.eu.int/ETK-NTTS.
Below you will find a part out of this article. "SuperCollect is an information system that meets the requirements for a data capture system using the Internet. SuperCollect combines the power of the Internet with the upcoming standard of XML and the "de facto" standard of Excel. SuperCollect lowers the administrative work for organisations and/or parts of them when they have to provide data within their own company or to external institutions. Collectors of data cause most often this administrative work by asking for data by forms or questionnaires. The system can easily be implemented in the organisation. There is always one central part: a database with data and software to control the data collection process. The respondents only need an Internet connection and Excel software. The - by the "central part" - generated forms or questionnaires to be filled in are downloaded by the respondents via Internet and after transferring his own data to the form, the data are sent to the central part. The system also eases the data collection process itself: from the creation of the electronic questionnaire to the production of the data and the control of the dataflow."
